Konami Sees Slight Dip In Revenue, Increase In Social Games

Konami have announced their fiscal report for the year ending March 31, 2011. The company as a whole managed to stay on par as the previous year, with net revenue and income seeing just a slight dip. Net revenue was down to $3.19 billion from last year's $3.24 billion while net income dropped to $12.9 billion from 13.3 billion last year. In addition, Konami also added that social games have seen a nice increase in sales.

As for their major hitters, both Metal Gear and Winning Eleven have performed well with "solid sales." The company's dating sim LovePlusPlus for the DS enjoyed "a highly positive response among Japanese consumers." Meanwhile, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow also "enjoyed healthy sales."

The PS3 remained the largest contributing factor to Konami's game sales, growing from last year's 23 percent to 27 percent, followed by PSP which contributed 20 percent this year, up 3 percent from 2010. Xbox 360 sales were up 3 percent as well. Nintendo Wii sales were down to 16 percent.

Konami notes that they will be putting more effort into a stronger social gaming portfolio for the next fiscal year: “Phenomenal recent growth in [social network services] is spawning more and more new business opportunities. Konami is already seeing signs of success with social games, and certain content has earned rave reviews from users. For this reason, Konami will further concentrate business resources on this field and take full advantage of its expertise and extensive content developed so far to reinforce online distribution via SNS sites and expand its product lineup.”

Konami's fiscal year 2012 outlook includes "[releasing] a wide variety of content for all types of platforms including Nintendo 3DS and NGP," with Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D being the highlight for Nintendo's new handheld device.
