Matt Hazard: Blood Bath And Beyond Review

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath And Beyond is the latest game developed by Vicious Cycle Software for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. The Matt Hazard series once dominated some arcades back in the golden years of the 80s, but recently, with the likes of Eat Lead: The Return Of Matt Hazard, the series has become generic with very little to call it's own. Can this latest addition to the Matt Hazard franchise prove to be something more than a collection of one-liners and bad puns?
The story is very simple, Matt's arch-nemesis, General Neutronov, has stolen his 8-bit self and plans to kill him in the past, thus killing him in the present. Neutronov has also gained access to the Marathon Megasoft game archive server and it's in this server that the game takes place, with Matt chasing Neutronov from level to level – it's all rather simple. The game does not take its story very seriously and neither should players. It's a humorous take on what it is, a dumb fun side-scrolling shoot-em-up, and a challenging one at that.
