Max Payne 3 Takes Top Spot In UK Charts, Diablo III Comes In Second

Rockstar Vancouver's Max Payne 3 has debuted at the number one spot in UK charts this week, outperforming Blizzard's highly anticipated Diablo III.

According to Chart-Track, there was only a difference of 8,000 in sales separating the two blockbuster hits.

Max Payne 3 was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a PC release coming later this month for North America and June in Europe. Diablo III released on PC and Mac.

It may well be thanks to the marketing team of Max Payne 3 that gave the game the extra edge to take top spot, with advertisements seen all over the UK; from bus stops, buses, cinemas and bulletin boards.

Diablo III on the other hand had little in the way of retail advertising.

The remainder of the top ten include FIFA Street, Prototype 2, Modern Warfare 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations and the like:

1. Max Payne 3 (Rockstar)
2. Diablo 3 (Blizzard)
3. FIFA Street (EA)
4. Sniper Elite V2 (505 Games)
5. FIFA 12 (EA)
6. Prototype 2 (Activision)
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision)
8. Battlefield 3 (EA)
9. Assassin's Creed Revelations (Ubisoft)
10. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Sega)
