Microsoft has finally revealed the three remaining multiplayer maps for Halo 3: ODST, which will be released this September. Like the other Halo titles, Halo 3: ODST will be a first-person shooter (FPS), but will have the players assume the role of a soldier called Rookie, alongside his compatriots, instead of the iconic Master Chief. Players will search through the ruins of New Mombasa and discover what happened to the rookie's missing teammates. The game will include an option to play the campaign levels as they please, which is a new addition to the series.
The three new maps are entitled Heretic, Citadel and Longshore. Heretic brings back the arena Midship from Halo 2. The symmetrical spaces in this map will require players to employ strategy to outwit their opponents. Citadel is a map that forces players into small, confined spaces, forcing squads to keep in constant contact with each and adjust their combat tactics in the close quarters. Longshore, unlike the other two maps, is designed for large scale combat. The multitude of buildings, elevated walkways, and open inlets are tailored for multiple combat scenarios.
Gamers who pick up Halo 3: ODST will also have access to three new Halo 3 multiplayer maps, as well as the Legendary, Mythic, and Heroic maps. The game will also include a code for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta later this year. Halo: Reach is a prequel to the original game and is expected to be released in Fall 2010.
