Nier Gestalt, Nier Replicant: What Are The Differences?

Prior to this year's Tokyo Game Show, gamers were under the impression that Nier was a game in the singular form. However, upon arriving at the show, they were greeted with two different versions, one called Nier Gestalt on the Xbox 360, and the other called Nier Replicant on the PlayStation 3.
Naturally, questions were raised about the differences between the two titles, but Square Enix have been quite vague on the situation. Famitsu magazine managed to get a few brief details that highlight one of the key differences. That being the news that Nier Replicant won't be seen outside of Japan, and it will only be playable on the PlayStation 3. The game has been tailored purely for the Japanese market.
Curiously, Nier Gestalt will still be released on the Xbox 360 within Japan, but Square Enix obviously doesn't expect it to do as well. It's essentially the international version of the game, and will be released on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 outside of Japan.
Although Yosuke Sato, the game's Executive Producer, stated that both games will have the same content, which seems odd considering the protagonists will look very different in each of the versions and will be on slightly different quests. In Nier Replicant, the protagonist is trying to save his sister, whereas in Gestalt, the protagonist is trying to save his daughter.
There is no concrete release date for either of the titles yet, but they should arrive at some point during 2010.
