Nier, No Input From Nomura
Posted on 2009/06/16 by Darryl
Nier is something of a new venture for Square Enix. Traditionally known for their role-playing games, they've had a few forays into other genres in the past, to mixed success. However, one of the successes was Kingdom Hearts, something of an action adventure / role-playing hybrid.
Nier is said to be much more hardcore though, promising a full action adventure experience. That said, after seeing the first in-game footage from Nier, there are still some comparisons that could be drawn between the two games, namely with the enemies.
However, Yosuke Saito, the producer of the game, was quick to dispel any rumours about the involvement of Kingdom Hearts creator, Tetsuya Nomura:
Nomura is not going to have any involvement with this title. As far as enemies looking similar, it's just a coincidence (laughs).
This could be seen as a good thing, or a bad one. Many fans would have loved to hear that Nomura was in some way involved with Nier and it would have definitely increased their expectations for the title. With so many other projects on the go though, there could have been concerns about stretching his talents too far.
Nier still has a long way to go in its development and is expected to hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point during 2010. Check back to Gaming Union for more Nier coverage in the near future.
