Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Hands-On

Taking the reins of Ayane, Gaming Union had a chance last week for some hands-on time with the PlayStation 3 bound Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 at E3. Playing as Ayane was certainly one was to make the quasi-port of Ninja Gaiden 2 on the Xbox 360 seem new again on the PS3, but not by too much.
The camera has thankfully been completely reworked from the 360 version. So much so that during our brief hands-on time the thought of the annoying camera in the last version didn't cross our minds. Combat felt as fluid as ever with the ever-fantastic animation and solid frame rate both intact. Ayane too played remarkably fast, similar to Ryu, however her dual short swords made for very close combat.
Playing as Ayane was also interesting considering her quite strange outfit. Nevertheless players will likely never lose track of her no matter the size of a horde of enemies with such an enormous bow strapped to the back of her purple outfit. To each their own, we prefer playing as Ryu the dragon ninja, but no-less Ayane was fun to play as.
Graphics looked just about the same as the original Sigma, which isn't a knock considering the sleek graphics of the original Sigma still impress today. Online co-op wasn't up for demo this time unfortunately, but of all things that looks like the best addition to the title over the 360 version so far. All-in-all this version doesn't feel all that improved since Ninja Gaiden 2, but we look forward to future previews to really test that.
