Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto Quashes Retirement Rumours

Following his interview with Wired and the subsequent media storm, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has issued a fresh statement confirming he has no immediate plans to retire.

Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, Miyamoto reportedly clarified: "Nothing has changed, and nothing will be changed in the near future as to my role inside of the company." Rumours that Miyamoto was planning to step-down from his current role to make way for younger designers surfaced last week, after Wired reported he was planning to return to his roots working on “smaller projects.”

The comments reported in the San Francisco Chronicle mirrored the sentiment recorded in Nintendo’s initial statement regarding Miyamoto’s future. In it the company insisted Miyamoto had no intention to step down and that there had simply been a misunderstanding. As well as the comments regarding his future, the San Francisco Chronicle went on to report Miyamoto had confirmed that while he would be staying at Nintendo, his next project would be smaller in scope.
