NPD December: Wii On Top, PS3 Edges Xbox 360

Decembers figures from the NPD Group have been released, which look at sales throughout the region of North America. The Nintendo Wii is still dominating the field, with the Nintendo DS coming in second; together they managed to sell over 7 million units throughout the month.

The PlayStation 3 had been occupying the next place for the last few months, but in November, the Xbox 360 retook its former position. Microsoft surely expected this to last, but it looks like the PS3 edged it by 50,000 units. It'll certainly be interesting to see how 2010 pans out after seeing these figures.

The PlayStation Portable managed to sell just over half a million, while the PlayStation 2 is still posting respectable figures, selling just over 333,000 units.
