PlanetSide Sequel Named: PlanetSide Next

Posted on 2009/10/11 by Nelson

We already knew that Sony Online Entertainment was working on a sequel to PlanetSide. However, up until this point, there was no confirmed name for the title. Sony have decided to break the silence and announce that the next game in the PlanetSide franchise will be called, PlanetSide Next.

John Smedley, the President of SOE, was particularly happy about the games revival and talked about really taking the amount of players involved to a greater level.

To me, PlanetSide Next means we get a chance to take the essence of everything that was fun in PlanetSide and make it a lot better ... massive battles on a scale no other FPS will touch ... none of this 64-player stuff ... REALLY MASSIVE.

PlanetSide is a massively-multiplayer online first person shooter and was released way back in May, 2003. It focused on three factions waring over ten continents, also enabling players to specialise in particular combat strengths. As of this moment in time there is indication of when we'll hear anything about a release date.
