PlayStation 3 Exclusives
Posted on 2009/06/08 by Darryl
Sony came into their conference with all guns blazing as they showed a host of games for their premier system, the PlayStation 3.
The collection was large, and there were a lot of multi-platform titles on show, but they also did some extensive live demos of the games which are coming exclusively to their system. There was also a large quantity of other exclusive titles available for playing on the show floor.
Here's a list of the big games that Sony showed off for the PlayStation 3 at this year's E3:
During the Sony Press Conference, Evan Wells came out and did a live demonstration of Uncharted 2 and it looked amazing. The landscape was spectacular, and the action was exceedingly intense.
Uncharted was a huge success and it looks like Uncharted 2 is going to expand upon this in a big way. So far, the gameplay that's been seen has been like a cinematic experience and the multiplayer seems to have been received relatively well. It's out later this year, so expect big things from this title.
Announced at last year's E3, MAG has intrigued many due to its bold claims. The gameplay is supposed to revolve around battles which will involve 256 players all at the same time. Prior to this year's E3, people were sceptical about whether or not it would actually be possible, but Zipper Interactive not only showed it live during the Press Conference, they had it running live on the show floor.
An impressive feat, but it looks as though they have had to cut some corners to get there. The gameplay looks to have suffered a bit, but there is still time to polish the game before it's released towards the end of 2009.
Quite easily the most surprising announcement at this year's E3. Jack Tretton had journalists and probably gamers around the world scratching their heads when he announced that Final Fantasy XIV would be coming to the PlayStation 3.
However, he wasn't lying and Final Fantasy XIV will be coming out next year; the first time there have been two numbered Final Fantasy games released in the same year. It will be the spiritual successor to Final Fantasy XI, but it will be a completely independent game.
One of the worst kept secrets of E3, The Last Guardian (Project Trico) was leaked prior to the event. However, that didn't stop Sony from showing a vastly superior trailer, which really showcased some impressive graphics.
There is no doubt that Japan Studio will produce an innovative title once again, which will be shrouded in artistry and mystery.
Gran Turismo has been on the back burner for quite some time now, and with the release date getting closer and closer, fans are really starting to anticipate its release. However, the hype shifted up a few notches after the Sony Press Conference following the trailer which showcased their newly acquired Nascar and WRC licences and damage to cars. It's scheduled to hit at the start of 2010 and this is the only game that's worthy of racing simulator fans.
Another one of Sony's big announcements was the unveiling of Agent. Quick to point out that Grand Theft Auto was a staple of the PlayStation 2, they hope that Agent, Rockstar's new game, will do the same for the PlayStation 3.
There is a huge weight of expectation sitting on the shoulders of God of War 3 and it also had a live demonstration during Sony's E3 Press Conference.
It actually provided probably the biggest downer of the whole conference, as due to being pushed for time, the demonstration had to be cut short. Despite this, the game showcased a new level of violence and it looked absolutely fantastic!
Whether it was wings being ripped off, horns being stabbed through faces, or bellies being slit open, it was gory, grotesque and everyone wanted more.
When Little Big Planet came out, Sony claimed they created their own gameplay genre. Well, it looks like they're going to continue along that path with Mod Nation Racers. The premise is much the same as Little Big Planet, except it's all about racing. Players can create their own racers, cars and tracks and there are unlimited possibilities.
Sony Austin have been given one objective, make the best damn DC based game that's ever existed. To do this, they are creating an MMO which is set to be genre defining. Players will be able to create their own character in the DC Universe and fight alongside some of their favourite heroes.
Being developed by SoE Seattle, The Agency is an MMOFPS, which also has an element of Stealth to the gameplay.
Players will have the option of joining one of two agencies and after they've got themselves equipped, they will take part in real-time gameplay.
Free Realms is described as an MMOAG (Massively Multiplayer Online Action Game) and although it was released in April for the PC, it's scheduled in for release Q3 2009 on the PlayStation 3.
Heavy Rain is highly anticipated by many, purely because it proposes a very different gameplay model than is typically showcased. Proper gameplay footage was shown for the first time a few weeks prior to E3, and people were given the chance to experience it themselves on the show floor.
White Knight Chronicles had an lukewarm reception with critics when it was released in Japan last Christmas. However, it still sold well and Western gamers have been eagerly anticipating its release every since.
Players assume the role of Leonard, a 17-year old boy who acquires a power that allows him to summon a huge White Knight.
A Crack In Time kicks off where Tools of Destruction finished off, and looks to resolve many of the unanswered questions left by the first game.
This time, levels will be much more expansive, as Ratchet has access to some Hover boots. Clank will also be involved in some very innovative puzzles that revolve around using time.
Formerly known as Quantum Theory, this PlayStation 3 exclusive is being developed by Tecmo. Details are still minimal, but it's known that the story will take place inside a tower, that's alive. It will be a third-person action game that has a heavy focus on combat.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a refined version of Ninja Gaiden 2, which was previously released on the Xbox 360. Rachel has also been confirmed as playable in both offline and online play.
Trinity is a new game being published by Koei which is said to be very different to anything they've developed before in the past. It's going to be a much more action adventure focused game and will have very little in common with the Warriors franchise.

Imo PS3 definately have more exclusives in 2009 but i dont think it even matters as PS3 games dont seems to sell well. It semms all the internet and fanboys talk is just talk. Sure MS exclusive lineup pale in comparison but WHOS GONNA BUY ALL OF IT and HAVE THE TIME TO PLAY IT ALL? Huh? Maby spoiled rich kids haha btw i don think theres many around. At the end of the day im gonna buy Splinter cell conviction and Alan Wake from now till early 2010 and im proud of it. Most probably also Assasin Creed 2, never cared for Halo & Forza.
