PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.00 Announced

Sony just announced the latest firmware update for the PS3 version 3.00 and some of the new features were particularly sought after by a lot of gamers.

Firstly they've added more functionality in terms of getting around the store and finding information about the latest products. Using what Sony's aptly called 'What's New' as a replacement for the information board it gives players more direct access to the related sections, websites and content.

The whole look of the XMB has also changed and themes are also due to start appearing on the Playstation store to reflect new Dynamic Theme sets, that move and reflect various time changes throughout the day.

A new status indicator will also appear in the top right that will display information such as a battery power, messages unread, and friends online is also a welcome addition. They also had this comment to make in their preview video.

We're going to add a tremendous amount of new avatars to the Playstation network over the coming months, thats enabled in firmware 3.00. And we'll have free and premium avatars available through the Playstation store.

There you have it folks, aside from other changes to the trophy system it looks like Sony have finally got around to taking their user customisation more seriously.
