PSN Attacks: Only Dormant Accounts Hit

Yesterday's attacks on Sony's network may have caused a bit of a scare amongst Sony users, however John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment, insists the information that was hacked was not from Sony.

"We've said publicly when we were compromised before that the information is out there and could have been used. That was obviously the first thing we looked at," Smedley said.

Apparently only dormant accounts were attacked which means those that had not changed their password since the major attack on PSN this past April. "I'm not going to say it's impossible [the info came from Sony]," he continued, "We just think that's not the most likely case."

Smedley insists all those who have yet to change their passwords, do so immediately in order to lessen the risk should another attack happen.
