Sega Hopes To Expand Valkyria Chronicles Audience With PSP

In a blog post, the Director of Valkyria Chronicles and now Producer on Valkyria Chronicles 2, Shuntaro Tanaka, mused on why the series has turned to the PSP. The lead reason Tanaka-san outlined was Sega's desire to expand the audience of the series.
According to players of the original Valkyria Chronicles that responded to a Sega survey, 95% were male, and older than Sega anticipated. Tanaka-san also noted the obvious fact that PS3 games take big bucks compared to developing PSP games. So while series like Yakuza and Metal Gear Solid expanded their fanbase on the PlayStation two, Sega is hoping to use the PSP to note only reproduce that, but save on time and money in the process.
Tanaka-san mentioned that he indeed wants to bring the series back to the PS3, as his dream is to develop the series on both the PSP and PS3. If all works to plan, Sega could very well expand the series' audience with the PSP, and have more fans to sell to for the next PS3 iteration of Valkyria Chronicles.
