Sin & Punishment 2 Preview

Gaming Union swung by Nintendo at E3 for a first look at a playable version of Sin & Punishment 2. The original Sin & Punishment for the Nintendo 64 was massively popular with importers, and it was recently released on the Wii’s Virtual Console. The sequel was announced during Nintendo’s press conference last Fall, but little information about the game was released. Thanks to the demo, we now have some idea of how the game will play when it is released early next year.

Sin & Punishment 2 takes place years after the first game, and starts two new characters: a boy named Isa and a girl named Kachi. Like in the first game, the gameplay is essentially a rail shooter. Both characters had a gun that could fire energy blasts at the enemy, but the special attacks for those guns differed between the two characters. Kachi could lock-on to multiple enemies and attack them all at once, while Isa could fire a concentrated energy blast at a group of enemies in one area.

Golden Sun DS, Nintendo DS, Nintendo The gameplay switched between on-foot and in-air. When we were running, we could roll to the left and the right, as well as jump into the air. When we flew into the air, we could move in all directions, as well as dodge attacks (think Star Fox 64-style dodging). We faced a few bosses which stopped the on-rails action and allowed us to spend more time focusing on evading their attacks.

Treasure, the developers of Sin & Punishment 2, are known for having enemies firing an insane amount of attacks at you at once, and this game was no exception --- fans of rail-shooters will love this game. If the demo was any indication, this game will be a instant purchase for fans of the original.
