Sony: PS4 Launch To Be The Strongest In Sony's History

At present, Sony has shown off quite a few games from both first-party and third-party developers, but hasn't yet stated which game will be launch titles. However, according to the PS4's lead architect Mark Cerny, the console is set to have the strongest launch in the company's history.

Cerny had previously claimed that launch titles for the PS4 will be plentiful, but this time he went one step further. In an interview that Cerny conducted with Gamasutra, he said: "The launch lineup for PlayStation 4 - though I unfortunately can't give the title count - is going to be stronger than any prior PlayStation hardware."

On the first-party front, Sony has unveiled Killzone: Shadow Fall, which was also shown during a live segment on Jimmy Fallon, Driveclub, Knack and inFamous: Second Son. Each of these games were shown off in some shape or form during the PlayStation Meeting event in February. We also know that Quantic Dream are working on a new game for the PlayStation 4.

There have been plenty of third-party developers who have announced their support for the console. Numerous titles will be given cross-generation releases, such as Diablo III, Destiny, Assassin's Cree IV, Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs. Other developers are using the PS4 to branch out to Sony's console for the first time, such as CD Projekt RED with Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Sony has also stated that there will be lots of scope for using its other major platform, the PlayStation Vita, in conjunction with the PS4. This is all thanks to the consoles being developed together. We've already been told that cross-play will be greatly enhanced, allowing PS4 games to be played on the go using the PS Vita.

Although there has been no official confirmation yet, the PS4 is expected to launch globally this year. However, there are rumours surfacing that Microsoft's next console could also release around the same time. They have issued invitations for an Xbox-related press conference which will take place on the 21st of May.

With Nintendo stating that they won't be holding a press conference at E3 2013, it means that this year's event could be rather interesting, as Sony and Microsoft will be going all gun's blazing to try and capture sales this year.
