Square Enix Posts Strong FY2012 Profits

Thanks to good performance from Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Final Fantasy XIII-2, Square Enix has posted very strong profits this fiscal year (FY 2012).

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has sold 2.18 million units worldwide since it launched in August 2011 and while Final Fantasy XIII-2 posted very poor sales from the perspective of the franchise's history, it was still one of Square Enix's best selling properties.

This, combined with the huge success of Final Fantasy Brigade in Japan, allowed Square Enix to post profits of 6.1 billion yen ($76 million).

Square Enix were also helped by Final Fantasy XIV starting to pull its weight. Following 2010's disastrous launch of the MMO, Square Enix soaked up incredible expenses to try and turn the game around. They recently started charging monthly subscriptions again following a prolonged period where the game was free-to-play.

Last year, Square Enix reported a massive loss of 12 billion yen ($150 million).
