TGS 2009 Awards: Best DS Game

Tokyo Game Show 2009 wowed crowds and wooed gamers across the world, and while there were plenty of good and bad games alike, it's time to recognize the cream of the crop with our TGS 2009 Awards. This year Gaming Union is focusing on each individual console there, and to kick things off, a look at the Nintendo DS' best and brightest.
Historically Nintendo doesn't attend Tokyo Game Show, and that once again rang true at TGS 2009. However, a number of developers were there to showcase their DS titles. Capcom in particular were funneling Japanese press to their demos a fair bit, even going as far as setting up a themed booth for a particular DS game.
Nominees:
- Okamiden (Capcom)
- Blue Dragon: Ikai no Kyojuu (Mistwalker / Namco Bandai)
- Ghost Trick (Capcom)
Winner: Okamiden (Capcom)

Okamiden was a surprise announcement before TGS 2009, especially considering the poor sales of the original. No less, the surprise was great to hear as few games are as warmly received as the original Okami was, and with the DS' stylus controls, Okamiden is proving to be a great fit for the platform.
This time around players embark as the sporting pup Chibiterasu, once again equipped with the Celestial Brush. Chibiterasu, with a remarkable resemblance to Okami's Amaterasu, brings the cell shading style and detail from the PS2, and while gameplay is as imaginative as ever, some parts were a bit ruff around the edges. Still early however, Okamiden still has a lot of room to play with!
