TGS 2009 Awards: Best Wii Game

Tokyo Game Show 2009 undoubtably put a lot of smiles on press and show-goers faces, but also a lot of raised eyebrows and disappointment. Once again it's time to point out just what titles induced the most joy and smiles, with Gaming Union's TGS 2009 Awards. Continuing the Award's console focus, it's time to waggle onto the Wii.

As we mentioned in the Award for Best DS Game of TGS 2009, Nintendo simply doesn't attend the Tokyo Game Show. No-less, plenty of publishers brought along their own kiosks and demos, and sure enough there were plenty of Wiis about at the show with a fair number of great games running on them.

Nominees:

  • Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars (Capcom)
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Square Enix)
  • Monster Hunter Tri (Capcom)

Winner: Monster Hunter Tri (Capcom)

TGS 2009 Awards Winner

Monster Hunter is one solid franchise in Japan, and Monster Hunter Tri is actually released over in Japan already. However, while game isn't out until next year in the West Gaming Union got some hands on time with the English version of the game at TGS 2009, and we were impressed.

Fans of Monster Hunter will feel right at home with this title, although there have been some modifications. One of the biggest comes with the camera, although to get the true Monster Hunter experience on the Wii, players will unfortunately have to buy the Classic Controller Pro. Given the amount of hours this game will sap, it's probably a shrewd investment. It's also now possible to fight underwater, getting rid of some annoying downtime when fighting water-based Monsters in previous games.
