WET is a game being developed by Articial Mind And Movement (A2M). It's a landmark game for them, as it's the first time they're actually developing a new IP; all their previous games have been related to an existing product.
It definitely shows, as WET is nothing like they've made before. Going away from their usually restricted work ethic, A2M have gone all out to make WET action packed, with lots of gore.
The story focuses on Rubi, who is essentially a gun for hire. She does whatever it takes to achieve the mission she's being paid for, and doesn't care how much collateral there is, which is good, as it means there are plenty of bad guys to annihilate along the way.
As well as having an assortment of guns, Rubi can use a sword. These can also be combined using moves similar to bullet-time. If Rubi jumps, slides or does a wall-run, the player can start shooting, which enters a mode where time slows down. In this mode, when using guns, the player can aim at one target, while the AI will pick another target to aim at with Rubi's second weapon. It makes it a rather tactical game, as without the assistance of these tools, Rubi will easily be overwhelmed and killed.
Alongside the third person action, there are also other sections which worked to combine shooting and quick-time events. The one showed off in the demo centred around a car chase, where the correct button needed to be pressed in order to jump from car to car. Failure to do so resulted in instant death for Rubi.
Overall, WET didn't seem that bad, but it wasn't outstanding. The normal gameplay when not performing any moves felt a bit clunky and enemies took a lot of punishment before going down. However, there is still some time for A2M to make the gameplay more engaging and rewarding before its release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at the Fall of 2009.
