White Knight Chronicles Online Explained: GeoNet

White Knight Chronicles was a hit when it came out in Japan, yet it still hasn't seen a western release yet. At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Level 5 held a press conference, which Gaming Union was fortunate enough to attend, in which they talked about the online component of their game.

In part one of this mini-feature, the focus will be on the GeoNet, with the next part being about the GeoRama, followed by Subquests.

It's worth pointing out initially that the online mode in White Knight Chronicles is completely free and it is unlocked by completing the first chapter in the game, a feat which is expected to take a few hours. It was designed this way so that people would at least understand the concepts behind the game before they jumped into the online foray, to play with their friends.

GeoNet is essentially the hub of the online experience, and it's where players will create their profiles. It basically acts as a mini-social network that is disconnected from the PlayStation Network meaning players will use their in-game account, as opposed to their PSN account. Here they can create a homepage for people to visit, write blogs and send people messages.

The GeoNet can also be launched at any time throughout the online or offline experience and it's as simple as opening the pause menu. From here, a condensed version of the GeoNet can be viewed, but it will have the same functionality. It's something that will really help to create a true community experience within the game, and it was definitely developed with this in mind.

Check back tomorrow to find out more about the GeoRama, as we detail what players can expect from this rather unique feature. The game is scheduled to come out in North America and Europe around Spring 2010.
