GamesCom: Fallout: New Vegas Hands-OnThu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 6:57 pm (EST) BY LEE BRADLEYInheriting the reigns of the Fallout series is a double-edged sword at this point. On the one hand you have access to one of gaming's most-loved properties, the ability to build upon the revered work of Black Isle and Bethesda and the opportunity to follow-up one of 2008's best-selling, most critically lauded titles. GamesCom: The Force Unleashed 2 ImpressionsThu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 6:23 pm (EST) BY DARRYLThe Force Unleashed was exactly what the Star War franchise needed, a game that finally let players, as the name suggested, unleash the Force in all its glory. The amount of power was just awesome, but everything is built to be surpassed, and that's exactly what LucasArts plan on doing with The Force Unleashed 2; a game which promises more bang for your buck. And boy does it look like it's going to achieve that. More » |

Less than 12 months on, they've just released the follow-up, dubbed We Sing Encore, and they've already got a third game on the way, We Sing Robbie Williams. GamesCom: Spec Ops: The Line ImpressionsWed, Sep 1st, 2010, 3:28 pm (EST) BY LEE BRADLEYA big-budget, cover-based, military squad shooter set in a destroyed middle-eastern city? With Nolan North on the voice cast? Well that ain't gonna win any awards for originality, is it? More » |

GamesCom: From Dust ImpressionsWed, Sep 1st, 2010, 10:32 am (EST) BY DARRYLFrom Dust was announced a few months ago as the next game from legendary French game designer Eric Chahi, the man behind Another World and Heart of Darkness. He claims that the game will be the spiritual success to the Populous franchise, and on first glance, it's very easy to see why. More » |

GamesCom: James Bond 007: Blood Stone ImpressionsTue, Aug 31st, 2010, 6:08 pm (EST) BY DARRYLWhen I initially heard that Bizarre Creations were developing the next James Bond game, dubbed Blood Stone, I'll admit that I had some reservations. Bizarre's background is in the racing genre, not the third-person shooter genre, after all. However, I've always been saying that developers shouldn't just stick to one genre and I'm glad that Bizarre are branching out. I'm also glad because it looks, from what I saw at GamesCom, that they're doing a fantastic job of it! More » |
Fable III Hands-On PreviewTue, Aug 31st, 2010, 5:36 pm (EST) BY LEE BRADLEY
It is a time-honoured tradition that sequels are "bigger, better, and more bad-ass." Building on the success of their predecessors, they typically add more story, more weapons, more enemies and more features. When it comes to sequels, conventional wisdom is unequivocal, more is better. |

GamesCom: Mindjack ImpressionsTue, Aug 31st, 2010, 8:14 am (EST) BY DARRYLIf there was one game that surprised me at this year's GamesCom, it has to be Square Enix's upcoming third-person shooter, Mindjack. On the surface it probably looks like any other generic shooter, but once you delve a little deeper, you realise this couldn't be further from the truth. More » |
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 Demo ImpressionsMon, Aug 30th, 2010, 8:33 pm (EST) BY COLIN
Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm was one of the more anticipated exclusives for the PlayStation 3 early on this generation, at least by the fanbase. Naruto itself is an incredibly popular series amongst anime and manga veterans. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is the next in the series for current generation platforms, both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it promises to offer far more than what the first did, complete with fluid animation, fast-paced combat and much bigger fights. |
Halo: Reach Hands-OnFri, Aug 27th, 2010, 11:42 am (EST) BY LEE BRADLEY
Bungie's farewell to Halo is shaping up to be a glorious swansong. Promising to reclaim the magic of Halo: Combat Evolved, while echoing the grounded narrative of ODST and building on the stellar online modes the franchise has become known for, you get the feeling that this could be the very pinnacle of the Halo series. |
GamesCom: The 3rd Birthday Hands-OnFri, Aug 27th, 2010, 8:43 am (EST) BY DARRYL
The observant amongst us will notice that The 3rd Birthday, despite being part of the Parasite Eve franchise, doesn't mention Parasite Eve anywhere in the title. That's because Square Enix only want it loosely associated with the games that came in the past - they see The 3rd Birthday as a complete reboot for the franchise, a new chapter if you will. It's certainly not a spin-off though, so don't go thinking about it like that. |
GamesCom: Red Faction: Armageddon ImpressionsThu, Aug 26th, 2010, 8:10 am (EST) BY DARRYLWhen I sat down to check out Red Faction: Armageddon for the second time, I initially felt a sense of deja vu. On face value, the demo look extremely similar to the one I saw at E3; Darius Mason was again attempting to create a safe passage for a convoy of humans by getting rid of alien infested structures. However, this time he had a few extra tools to help him out and I was quite surprised at how much it changed the feel of the action. More » |

GamesCom: Homefront ImpressionsThu, Aug 26th, 2010, 7:33 am (EST) BY LEE BRADLEYIn three years time, Kim-Jong Ill's son will reconcile North and South Korea. In eight years time their forces will invade Japan. Then, in 2024, they'll come for the United States. The land of the free will fall to superior military muscle. The Communists will control America. GamesCom: inFamous 2 Hands-OnMon, Aug 23rd, 2010, 6:01 pm (EST) BY JAMIE FELTHAM
Given that inFamous 2 was only shown in trailer form to most of the press at E3 I was fairly surprised to see a stack of screens lined up for the public to play the game at GamesCom this year. Still, I didn't sit around stunned too long; I needed to get my hands on Cole's next adventure. |

Enslaved: Odyssey To The West Hands-On ImpressionsMon, Aug 23rd, 2010, 12:07 pm (EST) BY DARRYLA short while ago, I was invited to Namco Bandai's Headquarters to check out the newest build of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West - the latest game from Cambridge's Ninja Theory. More » |
GamesCom: FIFA 11 Hands-OnMon, Aug 23rd, 2010, 9:22 am (EST) BY DARRYL
FIFA had an immense year last year. It, as a franchise, had been snapping at the heels of Pro Evolution Soccer for a few years, but last year was the first time for almost a decade that it could truly be hailed as the de-facto football game. They were back to where they were all those years ago - the premium licence and the premium gameplay. Something I'm sure they don't want to let slip away from their fingers. |

GamesCom: Time Crisis Razing Storm Hands-OnMon, Aug 23rd, 2010, 8:14 am (EST) BY JAMIE FELTHAMI wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I sat down to play Time Crisis Razing Storm, the latest entry in the franchise that also supports PlayStation Move. I haven't been too much of a fan of the light-gun genre ever since the Wii took away the appeal of a Guncon controller and replaced it with the Wii Zapper. You couldn't actually aim without a reticule on screen and that basically made it like playing with a mouse instead of an actual gun. More » |

HAWX 2 PreviewWed, Aug 18th, 2010, 6:16 pm (EST) BY ADAM MAFlying simulation games, as mentioned in our other previews, can be a very tricky subject. The first Hawx game demonstrated this quite well, generating some decent reviews but nothing that will live on forever in the history of gaming. A few technical issues, an extremely short campaign, and some poorly thought-out multiplayer features left a bad taste in the mouth. Fortunately, that hasn't stopped Tom Clancy's team one bit. Hawx 2 is coming, and with it come a few changes that may make for a more memorable (and enjoyable) flight experience. More » |
