In our last Cast List, we talked about Soulcalibur V, and it seems as though this week we're keeping up the fighting game trend this time around with "Street Fighter X Tekken".
Unlike the Soulcalibur games, these two have already been made into movies and, unfortunately, they weren't very good ones. Even Raul Julia couldn't save Street Fighter, which is a great shame.
With that in mind, I've decided that this cast list needs to be extra awesome in order to show that a fighting game film could be better with some good, solid actors. Well, that's the aim at least. The list will be split into two different parts and of course, only features a select few of the fighters which are featured in the final game.
Ryu - Shane West
In a Street Fighter film, you have to make damn sure your main characters are top notch. This is why the role of Ryu has been given to Shane West. When starting out, West had obtained a bunch of bit roles leading up to his role in "A Walk to Remember" which shot West into super stardom. Since then, West has been in a number of shows and films. At the moment he's costarring in the TV show "Nikita". It also helps that he does quite a lot of fighting in that show too.
Ken - Ryan Gosling
You must be living under a rock if you've never heard of Ryan Gosling. His most recent roles are amongst his most famous ones like in "Blue Valentine" and "Drive". With how his acting career is going, directors would definitely want him to headline their movies and I think he'd be a perfect fit for Ken.
Guile - Dominic Purcell
If you've never watched the show "Prison Break", I highly suggest you do. If you have, then you'd know Dominic Purcell who plays Lincoln Burrows. His acting talent shows no bounds and I'm certain he'd make a very convincing Guile.
Chun Li - Kelly Hu
Chun Li has a ton of fanboys and in favour of not casting a playboy bunny in the role, I decided to instead take solace in Kelly Hu. You might know her best as Lady Deathstrike from "X2" or for her role in "The Vampire Diaries". Either way, she's got talent.
M Bison - Rufus Sewell
To play the main antagonist of Street Fighter, you have to be someone who could beat out Raul Julia. Although the "Street Fighter" film was not necessarily the greatest, you cannot deny that Julia was a legend in his time. I feel as though Rufus Sewell would be up for the challenge. He's often played villains so this shouldn't be anything new to him. My only concern is beefing him up but considering the transformations I've seen actors make in the past, Sewell could probably handle it.
Kazuya - Tony Leung Chiu Wai
Kazuya is one of my favorites from the Tekken series and I can't see anyone else play it except for Tony Leung Chiu Wai. His look and his acting ability are more than convincing. If you haven't seen him in "Red Cliff" yet, I highly suggest it.
Nina - Mélanie Laurent
Nina is one of the most memorable female characters in the Tekken universe and I felt it best to cast someone like Melanie Laurent in the role. Her role in "Inglorious Basterds" as Shosanna Dreyfus is incredibly strong-willed, so much so that I was surprised she didn't duke it out with some Nazis at the end. I think Nina would only really work with someone who has an exotic look and feel. Casting someone like Scarlett Johansson would just end in tears.
Julia - Camilla Belle
Remember Michelle and Julia from Tekken? They were the mother/daughter team who wore Native American headbands and were able to flip people over just by bending backwards. One actress who I can just see portraying Julia is Camilla Belle. I still remember her back when she was in the made for Disney movie "Rip Girls" and the even older kid film, "A Little Princess". Now she's all grown up in films like "10,000 BC". There's no reason she wouldn't be able to pull this one out of the bag.
Paul - Bradley Cooper
When I was planning out this cast list, I originally thought, oh my gosh, Bradley Cooper for Paul Phoenix! But then I changed my mind since he's so mainstream that I wouldn't think anyone would accept it. But after a while I just thought, eh, why not?! The guy can act, he's got the look, so what if he's mainstream! So here he is, Bradley Cooper as Paul Pheonix!
Jin - Ken'ichi Matsuyama
If you know Ken'ichi Matsuyama, you probably know him best as L in the live action version of "Death Note". His performance as L was spot on and impressive. I think he has the stones to play someone like Jin, the son of Kazuya and Jun.
