Kojima: Peace Walker Delay is a Crime

The delay of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker last Friday came as a surprise to most because of how close to completion the game appeared to be. The marketing campaign was in full swing, with retail advertisements and an official promotional site running. Metal Gear Solid's creator, Hideo Kojima, responded to the delay on the Kojima Productions blog.

"I always preach to the staff, 'You must not have a delay after a release date has been announced. There is no greater crime as a game developer.'" Kojima wrote. In his mind, "official announcement of a release date is nothing less than a promise to fans and business partners. In other words, a release date change is like betraying the expectations of everyone."

Fans of the series need not worry about Kojima's resolve to finish Peace Walker. "It probably takes a long time to earn back trust that has been lost. However we will work hard, with the hope that we will one day earn the support of everyone again... At present, Kojima Productions is putting our full efforts on final tuning and brush ups, in aim of completion,"

Peace Walker is currently slated for an April 29th release in Japan. So far the North American and European release dates, May 25h and 28th respectively, remain unchanged.
