It has been revealed by the US Patent & Trademark Office that Sony have filed a patent for a universal games controller, which will have a touch-sensitive LCD screen that shows different button layouts. It also has an alphanumeric keyboard.

According to the plans, it could replace the current generation controllers and store up to three button layouts/functionality within its memory. It could also emulate the functionality of older systems, like the SNES, Megadrive or Atari systems.

To further emphasise the level of immitation, it also has rumble features and integrated speakers. Will anyone actually care though? Well, probably those who have lost their controllers.
