Rumors that Nintendo may announce a successor to the Wii this year have picked up steam lately. However, Nintendo has gone on record against these rumors. Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's President and COO, has stated the company is not seriously considering a new Wii at this point.
Fils-Aime said, "we pride ourselves on the big innovative jump, typically in the area of the consumer experience," during an interview with Forbes on Nintendo's future in technology,
"The way we approach that innovation, because we have hardware developers working side by side with software developers, is that when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can't be executed on the current platform, that's when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We're not there yet, from a Wii perspective."
Perhaps we will hear more on Nintendo's future console plans during this week's Game Developers Conference.
