Over at the PlayStation Blog, Eric Lempel, VP of Network Operations, has announced that PlayStation 3 update 3.40 is on its way soon and went on to highlight some of the features included in the new update. Of course 3.40 does include PlayStation Plus features and benefits, but it also includes some interesting new features for all.

One of the first new additions announced is the new photo gallery which will allow users to post their photos right from the PS3 to online albums to Facebook and Picasa Web Album. There is also network compatibility added with video in the Video Editor & Uploader. This uploader will allow for basic video editing as well as the ability to upload video directly to YouTube.

There are also a few small upgrades such as a 5 star rating system for content and an auto-off power save feature, but nothing too major after the network media updates. All that's left for us to know is when we can get our hands on this update. PlayStation Plus subscribers are probably itching for the update so their money will start to take effect.
