Gears overseer Cliff Bleszinski has explained the reasons behind the hold up on the Gears of War Movie. They've gone back to the drawing board regarding the screenplay as it was initially too costly, rated R and "contained no love story." A love story in Gears of War?
According to Bleszinski, the new screenplay will follow in the steps of sci-fi flick District 9, as opposed to the over-the-top-and-too-much-special-effects apocalypse flick 2012. Hollywood director Len Wisemen had also left the project in April.
They're still looking for a director and writer to take up the project.
This hasn't changed the development of Gears of War 3 though, thankfully. That's slated for an April 8, 2011 release.
