Insomniac, a studio well known for hits like Ratchet & Clank and the Resistance franchise, has long been making games for Sony's platform. However, in May, they announced that they would be linking up with EA via EA Partners to make a brand new IP for all major consoles.
Sony's head of its Worldwide Studios has given his thoughts on Insomniac deciding on a multiplatform strategy and he's personally "saddened" by it, according to an interview with Develop. "We grew up together" says Shuhei Yoshida, "Insomniac's first tile was on our first platform."
Having personally been producer for Spyro and Ratchet & Clank in Japan, Yoshida obviously feels quite attached to the studio and although he is saddened, he is also quite happy for them saying that Insomniac was "very open about their need to grow and their intention".
"They want to reach the people they haven't been able to, so it was sad to hear a couple of years ago what their intent was, but as we are growing, Insomniac is growing too.
"And the studio has its own ambition, so I totally understand, and I am very happy how they approached the announcement. They made sure that people know they are still working with us."
All in all, Insomniac growing can only mean more games for everyone.
