Batman Arkham City's New And Improved Detective Mode Detailed

Batman's taking on the Joker yet again, among a myriad of Gotham's psychotic killers, and this time they've taken over the city. That means the Bats is going to need some upgrading.

Cue game director Sefton Hill who details some enhancements to the Dark Knight's equipment, specifically the Cowls Vision, in layman's terms: detective mode. This mode has been upgraded in order to make it less of a hassle when dealing with the Riddler's mind boggling puzzles.

"As with nearly every area of the game we're enhancing it. One example is the criminal database coupled with the new interrogation mechanic," Hill said in the latest issue of PSM3.

"The Riddler continues to taunt the Dark Knight with mind-bending puzzles and exploration challenges, but the location of his biggest secrets are known only to him and people he's told. Rather than unlocking their locations using maps, Batman will be able to scan a gang of thugs to find a potential informant."

However, it's not all easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy for the Dark Knight as this means that in order to interrogate a prospective informant, he'll have to beat the living daylights out of everyone else whilst sparing him and with the FreeFlow combat system, it may prove quite challenging.

"This is the guy you need to question, but first you'll have to take down all the other gang members while sparing the one you want. That can be tough when Batman's in a seamless FreeFlow combo chain," he said.

The game is apparently complete and can be played from start to end, but we've got no word on a release date yet. It'll be out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
