Apple announced today during their special music event that not only does the iPod Touch hold more than 50% market share for portable gaming devices, beating out Sony and Nintendo combined, but they also announced that Game Center will finally be arriving on iOS devices starting with the next update, iOS 4.1.
Game Center is a multiplayer hub for iOS devices, allowing uses to matchmake and hook up with other players online to play competitively. To showcase the new app, Steve Jobs of Apple invited Epic Games on stage at their keynote today to reveal a brand new competitive action RPG running on the Unreal 3 engine.
And it certainly looked impressive.
The visuals are stunning for a portable device and I daresay it looks better than anything on the PSP or any other portable device at the moment. Of course only a small snippet of it was shown so it's best not to jump to conclusions just yet.
iOS 4.1 will be available for download next week.
