Demon's Souls developer FromSoftware has said that Dark Souls will be "more satisfactory," even for the "newbies." FromSoftware previously stated that they have no intentions on making Dark Souls easier then its predecessor, Demon's Souls. In fact, they plan on making it even more challenging.
According to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the team has "no intent to make it easier for new users," later adding: "We hope to provide a more difficult experience but a more rewarding experience, even to the newbies."
"Players on the same online environment will be able to share the experiences each player has and they will be able to benefit or de-benefit from that," he added, noting that the online experience in Dark Souls will be more rewarding.
Dark Souls will not be an open world game, although exploration remains a key concept for design: "The concept is several more dungeons and several areas that are interconnected so the player can have more discoveries."
"The world that the player can travel in and all the interconnected dungeons have been very specifically designed so that everything you can see can be explored."
