The recent PlayStation 3 firmware update [3.56] has clearly lived up to the reputation of causing problems for users. The recent update causes new hard drives to simply stop working on many PS3s.
According to various reports on gaming forums, the latest patch is preventing recent PS3 models [with 16MB flash] of being upgraded to a new hard drive. This error has also come up in previous firmware updates.
The following original PS3 models are affected: CECHH; CECHJ; CECHK; CECHL; CECHM; CECHP; CECHQ
Certain PlayStation 3 slim models are also affected by the recent firmware update, which Sony described as a "security patch" which was designed to shut out hackers.
