Analyst: Xbox 720 In 2012 Wouldn't Be A Surprise

EA were quick to douse any reports that they had a next-generation Xbox sitting in one of their development studios, but an analyst believes it would make sense of Microsoft and that we could see a new console announced at next year's E3, not this year's.

"It's in a vendor's best interests to maintain a system's viability as long as possible," said Billy Pidgeon of M2 Research. "On the other hand, should Xbox 360 hardware sales begin to drop off dramatically in Q4, or early in 2012 Microsoft will likely announce the launch of a new system at E3 next year."

Develop initially reported that next-generation Xbox hardware had been spotted at a EA development studio and their source continues to suggest as much.
