Konami have announced a Birds of Steel for PS3 and Xbox 360, boasting the Gaijin Entertainment developed flight sim as "the most realistic WWII air-combat experience" that will take players on a historic tour through the battles of Midway, Duadalcanal, the Coral Sea, Siege of Malta and even Pearl Harbor.
"For far too long, first person shooter fans have been tied to the foot soldier point of view, with the rare ability to experience realistic flight simulations or combat situations," said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.
"Birds of Steel pushes the throttle of realism by giving fans what they've been missing; cooperative online game play, life-like VFX and game dynamics, and a campaign that spans that encompasses some of history's most memorable aerial battles!"
Birds of Steel features both a single player and online multiplayer modes, with support up to 16 players. Other key features include 20 historical missions, as well as fictional, across 15 world-famous campaigns; over 100 aircrafts, including the Spitfire, P-51D Mustang, Zero and the Messerschmitt 109; realistic flight environments, weather conditions and day/night cycles.
There will also be monthly dogfight tournaments and the tools to create, edit and share your gameplay footage. Konami also notes additional content through DLC.
Birds of Steel is set for release early 2012 on both PS3 and Xbox 360.
