Rumour: NGP Specs Downgraded For Cost Efficiency

The latest rumours on Sony's next generation handheld, the NGP, says that the hardware which was first shown off in January may be downgraded in order to compete with prices at the retail level, most notably with rival handheld from Nintendo, the 3DS.

IndustryGamer's translation of a 01net report says that the NGP's RAM may be decreased from the initial 512MB to 256MB while the reported 16GB internal memory will be scrapped altogether in favour of external memory, much like how the PSP currently uses memory sticks.

IndustryGamers notes that the graphical capabilities of the device will not be affected as the planned 128MB graphics memory will not be changed, for now at least.
