Ever wondered what's behind the hood of Battlefield 3? DICE didn't just settle with an upgraded version of the Frostbite Engine, the studio decided to build another one from scratch, culminating in Frostbite 2.0.
The new engine grants the team quite a lot of flexibility. From new animation systems to the all new improved dynamic sound system. Lead animator Tobias Dahl explains that the FIFA team had actually shared their new animation tech with DICE, giving the boys in Battlefield 3 a very visceral and weighted feel.
What's interesting is that effects like rumble and camera shake are triggered by the sound system which has been designed based on "how the world responds to that sound rather than the sounds themselves," noted BF3 audio director Stefan Strandberg.
