NPD Group, an analytical company based in the US, has released information from a survey they compiled after speaking to 8,214 gamers aged two and above.

They claim that the average core gamer bought 5.4 games over the last three months, while also stating that core gamers spend approximately 18 hours a week gaming.

Another category they field is "digital gamers", who NPD claim bought an average of 5.9 games in the same period and clocked 16 hours of gaming a week.

NPD wouldn't stated exactly how they placed gamers into different categories, but did state that mobile/digital gamers are growing in their numbers, as well as how much commitment they have to the games they buy.
