Nintendo Announce New Wii Design, Not Backwards Compatible

As though the Wii wasn't family-focused enough, Nintendo has now officially announced that they will be launching the Wii Family Edition this holiday season with plenty of mini-games to play as well as a completely redesigned Wii.

The bundle will include two family essential Wii games, Wii Party and Wii Sports, as well as one Wii Plus controller complete with nunchuck. From the box art, this Wii seems to be much slimmer than it's predecessor. perhaps because Nintendo has decided to strip the console of it's backwards compatibility. This Wii will no longer support use of Gamecube pads for games such as Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros.

So what does this mean for those who prefer more wired play experience? They will have to purchase the upgraded "Classic Controllers". Expect the new Wii as well as the Family Edition Bundle out sometime this holiday season.
