Xbox Live Hits 35 Million Users, More Earned From Digital Sales Than Subs

Xbox Live has grown quite a bit, drawing in another five million users since last January, topping the 35 million user mark, according to what Xbox Live marketing manager Robin Burrowes told Joystiq.

"Our audience growth is up to 35 million people globally across those 35 countries on Xbox Live itself," he said, having showed off the new dashboard for the Xbox 360, and explaining that the growth was due to adding nine more countries to the service list at the end of 2010.

Burrowes would not comment on how many of said 35 million users were paid Gold subscribers, but noted that Microsoft was earning "more revenue from the transaction space than the subscription space." In other words, more people are buying digital content like indie games, DLC and the like as opposed to buying Xbox Live subscriptions.
