Namco Bandai has confirmed Dark Souls has received production approval for its North American and European October release dates.
The company confirmed that Dark Souls will be hitting North American stores on October 4, with its release in Europe following three days later on October 7. The release subsequently clarified that its statement referred to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
"Dark Souls has been approved for production for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, releasing in North America on October 4 2011, and Europe on October 7," read the company's statement.
Already available in Japan, the game has met a positive response from both fans and critics. It received high praise as the "spiritual" rather than direct successor to the popular Demon Souls RPG, including the same brutal combat and punishing difficulty level that made Demon Souls infamous.
