Ankama Games have officially announced the release date for Wakfu, the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 tactical MMORPG Dofus, and the adventure is set to begin in February 2012. North American publisher Square Enix revealed the date along with some of the more important launch details.
Wakfu will launch as a free downloadable game, much like its predecessor Dofus, while offering premium content for only $6.00 a month. A micro-transaction based online store will also provide users with access to more cosmetic goods and services. There are 14 unique classes to pick from, including the next-gen Cra, drunken Pandawas, iron-fisted Iops and more. In addition to the politically and economy-driven systems, the new world features its very own ecosystem with creatures that form a food chain, affecting mobs and agriculture.
"Wakfu's deep political and combat system combined with an ever"“changing ecosystem delivers an exceptional MMORPG unlike any other product in its category," said Mona Hamilton, vice president of marketing for Square Enix. "The team at Ankama created a unique, fun and entertaining online game and we believe a monthly subscription fee and online store makes for a rewarding experience all players can enjoy."
Wakfu will be available for download on both PC and Macs early next year. You can watch the amusing launch trailer below!
