'The Lost': Irrational's Odd Predecessor To Bioshock

Featured this week in Irrational Games' From The Vault feature, design director Bill Gardner discusses 'The Lost', a game that was in fact completed and released, but never in the states and probably for a good reason.

This title was supposed to be a cross between Silent Hill and Devil May Cry. There would be definite levels, but each level would be fairly open for players to explore. It sounds like a good idea on paper, but after the game was handed off to FXLabs, a developer based in India, the design focus changed a bit. The level structures/weapons remained unchanged in the final project, but the overall experience was given a Bollywood Makeover.

Irrational Games decided not to publish the game in the end since the quality was not up to their standards, however, thankfully this trailer provides enough insight as to what exactly we missed by not playing 'The Lost'.
