The Nintendo 3DS saw its best selling week in Japan last week, beating even its launch week, thanks to the release of Capcom's Monster Hunter 3G.

For the week ended December 11, data from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, and as reported by Andriasang, shows that the console sold a total of 378,114.

In comparison, Monster Hunter 3G sold 471,055 units in its opening two days, claiming the title of fastest-selling 3DS game from Mario Kart 7, which only just launched a week before.

The release of Mario Kart 7 had also caused a notable increase in 3DS hardware sales, with 205,962 units sold in the prior week.

This surge of hardware sales now means that the 3DS has sold more than three million units in Japan -- 3,237,272 units, to be exact.

Nintendo said last month that, while its latest portable console had a slow start, it is now on track to sell more units in its first year than its predecessor, the original Nintendo DS.
