PS Vita Update 1.61 Hits Tonight, Adds Maps, Video Recording And More

Sony have announced that PS Vita system software update 1.61 will be made available tonight in preparation of the devices upcoming launch in North America and Europe.

The update is mostly for early adopters who already have the device in their hands, and it adds a couple of handy applications like Maps, video recording functionality in the Photo app, as well as the ability to publish PlayStation Store ratings to Facebook.

Moreover, the update adds a couple of changes to Near. Player information will be displayed on the Discoveries screen where up to a hundred names that you've encountered will be listed. The Mac version of the PS Vita's Content Management Assistant has also been released.

Sony is encouraging users to update to 1.61, even if you already have 1.60 installed, as the latest version improves several system software performances.
