EA has released a statement which declares that BioWare's most recent title, Mass Effect 3, has managed to sell more than 890,000 copies on its first day in North America.

This will be seen as great news for EA, who are shipping a Mass Effect game on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC for the first time in the franchise's history.

On the same note, EA's CEO John Riccitiello has stated that BioWare's other major properly, Star Wars: The Old Republic, has now managed to achieve 1.7 million active users since its release last December.

Of Mass Effect 3, Riccitiello, who was speaking at Wedbush Technology, Media and Telecommunications Summit in New York City said "We anticipated it doing well, so we're happy."

Mass Effect 3 released on Tuesday in North America, with Europeans having to chomp at the bit until Friday. We awarded the game a very solid score and you should definitely check out our Mass Effect 3 review if you're on the fence.
