Fire Emblem: Awakening for the 3DS has performed exceedingly well at retail, reportedly selling out at multiple outlets, and burning through 81.63 percent of its first shipment.

Siliconera reports that the long-awaited 3DS title sold 242,600 copies in its first week of release, fast becoming the highest selling game.

Japanese sales tracker crunched those numbers good, confirming that Awakening had sold 81.63 percent of its first shipment, and attributed the retail success to the long wait for a new Fire Emblem game, Nintendo's marketing and promotion, and even the new character designs and game systems helped push its reception.
