Nintendo has announced in its third-quarter financial results, that its new Wii U console managed to sell 3.06 million units during its time on sale in 2012.
Of the three major regions, 1.32 million Wii U consoles were sold in the US, 900,000 were sold across Europe and 830,000 were sold in Japan.
Due to the sales, Nintendo has significantly changed its sales estimates for the console. They had initially charted that there would be 5.5 million Wii U consoles sold worldwide by the 31st of March, 2013. However, that has been slashed to 4 million, meaning Nintendo expect to sell just under 1 million consoles in the first three months of the year.
As part of the report, Nintendo also revealed that 11.69 million Wii U games have been sold so far, giving the console an attach rate of approximately 4 games per console. This does include packaged and downloadable games though.
