Ubisoft gave an unexpected announcement that not only will Rayman Legends be delayed, but it is no longer a Wii U exclusive. Pushing the release date from February 26th to September, Rayman Legends will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as the Wii U. Both the 360 and PS3 versions of the game are being developed by the same team developing the Wii U version.

Xavier Poix, the managing director of Ubisoft's French studios, explained at the DICE summit as to why Ubisoft chose to expand the game to multiple consoles. His response came down to not wanting to leave Xbox 360 and PS3 fans disappointed seeing as how they enjoyed Rayman's last grand adventure, Rayman Origins. When asked specifically the reason behind the delay, Poix vaguely stated (or rather dodged the question), "it's really about the fans".

Poix assures that the WiiU experience will be different for those playing the 360 and PS3 versions. He went further, teasing, "We have other features that I can't disclose right now, but it's really a brand new game". He continued explaining how they have created their own engine for lighting and are creating 3D effects in a 2D environment.

How do you feel about Rayman Legends no longer being an exclusive? While this is great news for Xbox 360 and PS3 owners, one can't help but wonder what effect this will have on Wii U sales.
