Namco Bandai has dashed any Western hopes of releasing any Tales games on the PlayStation Vita in the near future, by saying that it's not viable for them at the moment due to its performance.
"Unfortunately, at this present time we don't have any plans to release any of the Vita titles," said Hideo Baba, the producer of the Tales francise. "One of the main reasons is, unfortunately the PlayStation Vita is doing relatively poorly in North America, so it's one of those things that if the numbers increased considerably, then it's something we could consider."
There have currently been two Tales games released on the PlayStation Vita in Japan - Tales of Innocence R and Tales of Hearts R. Both of these games released on the Nintendo DS a few years previously.
In the past, Namco Bandai have adopted a similar approach. Western audiences have often been left out due to Namco's fears about sales in the region. They have also changed their preference of console as time as gone on. Each of the major platforms has had a Tales exclusive. The most recent exclusive is Tales of Xillia, which planned for release this year exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
